OOM: Phantom Planet

It's a pissed off female halfa that steps through the Milliways entrance to Amity Park.

Her world is in danger. Her city is in danger (although, technically, she lives in Milliways). Her friends are in danger. Her family is in danger. Danny is being an idiot, and is in danger.

And they think she's going to stay behind in Milliways while all of this is going on?

Obviously, they don't know Dani Phantom too well, do they?

"Well, that was easier than I expected," says Danny to no one in particular.

"You can stay in the ops center through the end of summer," Jack tells Dani cheerfully. "Jazz is off to college then, her room'll be free!"

[ilovebearbert]

"Gee, I thought I'd at least get to use it when I came home on weekends or school breaks," Jazz chimes in. But she's smiling.

Danny smirks. "At least they're not renting it out."

Dani's lower lip trembles as she listens to their conversation.

It's all happening so fast, she can scarcely believe it's happening at all.

Enzo slips his hand into hers, under the table.

She's got her home. She's leaving Milliways.

The hurt he always expected is there, but... it doesn't matter. She has her home and her family, and he's so happy for her that he can ignore the little selfish voice for now. Later, possibly, he'll mope and feel abandoned and have a nice little pity party, but for now... he squeezes her hand, and brushes the side of his foot against hers, and smiles.

Feeling the brush of his foot and his hand in hers, Dani turns to Enzo and offers him a small smile.

I'm leaving Milliways.

Looking at him, Dani can't help feeling a little guilty for leaving Milliways. With their relationship it was easy to take for granted the fact that she would always be there in Milliways when he showed up. Now, that part would drastically change.

And here he's been feeling guilty for being selfish. Next they're going to feel guilty for making each other feel guilty. Better to nip this in the bud before it achieves critical mass.

His smile broadens. "Congratulations," he murmurs.

"Thanks." And she beams at him. "Couldn't have done it without you, you know."

"Darn right, you couldn't. You'd have to lose me, first."

Ignoring or not aware of the conversation going on between Enzo and Dani, Maddie looks back at her son.

"So, just how did you manage to stabilize her, if Vlad needed your DNA in mid-transformation to do it?"

It should be noted that she says the name 'Vlad' like it's something that belongs in the garbage.

This, in Danny's opinion, is a clear indicator that all is well with the world.

"That's complicated, too. For starters," shifty look around, "Enzo's not human. Not even half. Not usually."

"Then what is he?" Maddie asks, lowering her voice. Obviously this is not something the other scientists and such need to hear, let alone the press.

[amity_npc]

"A data sprite. A computer program, a... digital lifeform. He's from a universe where programs're all people. I've been there, it's pretty cool."

He'll leave off the part about going up against an eschatological supervirus for now.

Intriguing! "Didn't you say you talked to one of those, Maddie?"

She nods. "But she had green skin. I believe her name was...Dot?"

Danny nods. "That's his sister. He's... he's just organic for the occasion. And they've got a way to turn humans into sprites, too, and basically what we did was, we got digitized, and that kind of turned our DNA into code. Then they had a look at my code, and a couple of hacker types used it to... debug her."

"I see." She's not going to ask about how a sprite turns into a human, and vice versa. It's not that she doesn't want to know, just that this probably isn't the time and place to ask such a question.

So, she turns back to Dani. "Well, I'm glad that everything turned out all right in the end."

"So am I...Mom," Dani replies with a shy smile.
