OOM: Moving Day

It's a bittersweet day as, with the help of her new family, Dani moves all of her belongings out of her Milliways apartment and into her new quarters at Fenton Works. Each possession she uncovers and packs away brings back memories, mostly happy but some sad.

And then, of course, are the ones that she's not sure she'll be able to explain to Jack and Maddie...

Enzo stares.

[ilovebearbert]

Jazz clears her throat.

"And while she may be about two years old chronologically, physically, mentally and emotionally Dani is about fourteen," she adds.

Dani turns and flashes a grateful smile at Jazz.

[amity_npc]

Danny nods.

"She knows what she's doing. Sort of. I think." He gives Enzo a small glare. "She'd better."

"Dan-ny..."

[amity_npc]

Danny smiles benignly at her.

"Besides," he adds, "I've been doing the overprotective brother bit for a year and a half. If I haven't scared him off by now, I think we're stuck with him."

"Tabbed right," Enzo agrees smugly.

He turns to Jack and Maddie. "Mr. and Mrs. Fenton, please, I want you to like me. But even if you don't, Dani and I are in love and you're not getting rid of me."

[notjustcookies]

"Well..." Maddie turns to look at Jack.

She personally has few qualms about the pair's relationship. While she thinks they may be jumping the gun on the whole "love" thing, it's obvious that they care about each other a great deal.

"...he did help out at the South Pole..."

[passthefudge]

"That's true."

He's a little iffy about his daughter dating a kid who's not even made of the same fundamental particles, but, he supposes, you have to be open-minded about such things these days.

"All right." And then, because he simply can't give in that easily, "But I'm keeping my eye on you."

Enzo, relieved, tries to look as respectable as possible. This is more or less how he handles regular inspections at the Academy.

"Yes, sir. Understood, sir."

He finds himself saluting automatically.

Jack blinks. That's more respect than he usually gets.

"Thanks, Dad!"

Unable to contain herself, Dani rushes up and gives Jack a hug.

She won't realize until later that she called him "Dad" instead of "Jack."

Jack's expression softens, and he bends down to hug her back.

"Whatever makes you happy, kiddo."

Maddie watches the two of them and tears up a little.

Awwwwwwww. Enzo smiles at them, and Maddie, and... well, everyone, really.

Once the hug is concluded and everything seems settled in that regard, Enzo offers Dani the pouch the pin came in, and takes the pin back so he can do this properly.

His hand wavers uncertainly through the air between shirt and hat.

Dani rolls her eyes, and places her hands on her hips.

"Just pick one, Enzo!" she sighs in mock aggravation.

Enzo laughs and pins it to the bottom of her hat. "There."

He doesn't need to say: You're still part of my world, too.

"And it might help you with your Door."

[ami_imperfect]

"How so?" she asks.

I hope so, is her unspoken sentiment.

"YT told me once that if you take something home with you from Milliways, if it's really from here, not something Bar got from somewhere else, you can use it like a link to get back. She was talking about, like, a coaster or a matchbook or something, but the pin was made here, so..."

"I'm sure it'll work, then. Thank you, Enzo."

"You're welcome."

He's counting on it as much as you are.

"Happy anniversary."
