OOM: Amity Park Visit Day

Pushing a sweater out of the way, Dani walks through her closet/door to Milliways and into her bedroom. She stops and looks over her shoulder behind her.

"You coming?"

"Oh, yes. The one from that interesting news feature." He eyeballs Enzo suspiciously, then continues in a deliberately cheerful voice, "Delighted to have you, Enzo. I'm sure you'll have a fun and educational day here, and won't get into any trouble."

He gives Dani a meaningful look.

Enzo stifles a laugh. "No, sir. I mean, yes, sir."

And Lancer gets another innocent look in return.

"Don't worry, sir," she assures him. "I'll keep him in line."

"That's what I'm afraid of," sighs Lancer as he turns and plods into the classroom.

Enzo waits for Lancer to be well out of the way before letting the laugh splutter out between his lips.

Dani's own gigglefit probably isn't helping.

"How did you manage to keep a straight face?" she whispers. "I had to bite the inside of my cheek!"

"All that meditation practice," he hisses back. "I knew it had to be good for something."

Rolling her eyes, Dani takes Enzo by the hand and leads him into the classroom.

The noise level in Lancer's homeroom is slightly louder than it was in the hall, by virtue of the fact that there are more students in the room. Most of them are busy talking or trying to get their homework done at the last minute to really be paying attention to the new arrival.

Dani visually scans the room, her gaze finally landing on a familiar face. "Everett! Over here!"

Enzo follows her gaze, eager to finally meet one of her new friends.

The boy that walks over is about half a head taller than Dani, with brown hair and blue eyes. He's dressed in a soccer jersey and jeans.

"Hey, Dani-yell," he greets her with a grin. Glancing over at Enzo he asks, "This the boyfriend?"

Dani nods. "Yup. Enzo I'd like you to meet Everett Barclay, one of my friends and my official notes taker. Everett, this is Enzo."

"Nice to meet you! D'you take notes for her all the time, or just when duty calls?"

"Likewise," Everett replies, extending his hand for a handshake. "Officially I'm only supposed to take notes for Dani when she has to miss class because of a ghost attack. Though that hasn't stopped her from trying to get me to take them for her when she's right there in class..."

Dani responds to Everett's mock glare with an innocent 'Who, me?' look of her own. "I don't do it that much," she tells Enzo. "Seriously, though, I'd probably be doing a lot worse in school if Everett didn't help me out."

Enzo nods. He can only imagine what it must be like to jump straight into high school. Bar's tutelage isn't a classroom environment.

"It's awesome of you," he tells Everett, "seriously."

That's a good candidate for understatement of the year.

"Thanks," Everett replies. Behind him the other students are starting to sit down at their own desks (if they haven't already), putting away phones and music players before Lancer can catch them and hand out detentions. Excusing himself, Everett sidles over to his own desk.

Dani leads Enzo to where her desk is at. Fortunately the desk beside her is empty, so Enzo can sit there instead of being stuck in a back corner.

"All right, people," calls Lancer as Enzo takes his seat. "Settle down. Applegate?"

"Here."

"Barclay?"

"Here," calls Everett.

And so on. Riveting, isn't it?

"All right," he says once attendance is done. "Lunch today is fluffy mackerel pudding and bean casserole. Sign-ups for the school talent show are on the bulletin board. And we've got a guest today, so try to be on your best behavior if you can remember how."

Lunch is what?

Oh, hey. That's him. He looks around and gives a little wave.

Dani turns and gives Enzo a Look that says yes, lunch is exactly what Lancer says its going to be.

The other students either wave or say 'hi' to Enzo.

"And speaking of behavior," Lancer goes on, "Mr. Falluca has asked me to tell you that if all the protractors are returned to his classroom by the end of lunch, he'll say no more about—"

His last word is drowned out by the bell.

"—steals protractors, honestly? All right, books open to page 142."
