Pushing a sweater out of the way, Dani walks through her closet/door to Milliways and into her bedroom. She stops and looks over her shoulder behind her.

"You coming?"

She eyes him speculatively. "Is that a fact?"

"Yes, ma'am. I don't think he's used to judo," he adds in a confidential tone which is nonetheless loud enough to draw a laugh from the crowd.

"Why, you..."

"Oh, suck it up, Baxter," snaps the gym teacher. "You're not hurt. Walk it off. And get to class, all of you!"

"Yes, ma'am," Dani joins the other students in droning, although she's fighting off an attack of the giggles.

The crowd disperses and begins drifting towards their classrooms, but Dani and Everett hang behind to wait for Enzo. The girl who had shot down Dash's weak defense also walked over.

So do Danny and Tucker, who've been watching the exchange with the expressions of people who suspect they're dreaming and really don't want to wake up.

"Dude. I think I'm allowed to give you the Key to the City for that..."

"Enzo..." says Danny, "I just want to say that I'm sorry I was so overprotective of Dani, and you have my permission to marry her."

Dani blinks at Danny in surprise, then exchanges her surprised look with the other girl.

"Did your brother get replaced by a pod person or something?" the other girl asks.

"Ordinarily I'd say 'no'," Dani replies. "But now..."

"Hey! Can't a guy make a peace offering in, uh... peace?" Danny says lamely.

"I'll take it," Enzo says through a fit of laughter.

"Congratulations. Come on," Sam tells Danny, "you can plan the wedding on the way to class."

Dani shakes her head as Danny, Sam and Tucker leave, but she's grinning.

"Nice going, Enzo," she congratulates her boyfriend. "Maybe now Dash'll get the message."

And all it took was a simple clubbing over the head.

Dani beams at Enzo, but Everett and their other companion crack up laughing.

"Kel, promise me that if I ever get that sappy over a girl" Everett gasps out "you'll shoot me."

Kelly nods, giggling. "Deal."

Enzo sticks out his tongue at them, then offers Kelly his hand.

"Nice to meet you, Kelly. Did I make a good first impression?"

"After seeing the way you handled Dash, how can I say no?" Kelly responds, accepting the offered handshake. "He's had that coming for a long time, and then some."

Enzo frowns suddenly. "I hope he doesn't come seeking vengeance. They do that."

Not that Dash could even find him for vengeance, as a rule, but there could be fallout.

"Trust me Enzo," Everett assures him "At the rate the gossip mill runs in this school? Dash and his buddies will definitely be thinking twice about trying to get back at you."

"Besides," Dani adds with a cheeky grin "you won't have to worry about him trying to ask me to his party this weekend."

Enzo grins back.

"And he can't take it out on you. Even if he was able to, he's gotta know that would wreck whatever chance he thinks he has."

Dani nods. "Damn right."

Everett and Kelly share a Look with each other. "Well, as sweet as this is we'd better get to class before the teachers start handing out detentions," Kelly advises.

"Math," Dani answers. "Fortunately we've all got it together, so that makes it bearable."

Enzo tries to maintain a poker face, although when he's human, he has to actually think about math like the rest of them. It's a bit disconcerting, to tell the truth.

This is not the time or place to discuss that, though, so he just follows Dani and friends down the hall. "Do you think Mr. Falluca got his protractors back yet?"
