On the outside of the FentonWorks building it looks like business as usual. On the outside.

Inside the building is a different story. The common areas look like they've been cleaned within an inch of their lives. Any ghost-hunting paraphernalia that was left laying around has been put away for the time being; better that it stays out of curious hands. There's a buffet of various snack foods laid out on the island in the kitchen. On the table in the dining room is a sheet cake (chocolate, of course) with the words "Happy 18th Birthday Danielle" written in blue icing on the white frosting. There's another cake for Danny but it's still in the freezer; ice cream cakes do have a tendency to melt if left out too long.

And where's the birthday girl in all of this? Up in her bedroom, anxiously awaiting the arrival of their, *ahem* 'out-of-town' guests.

"It's all right by me if it's all right with your mom," Bob tells his daughter, and, "Happy birthday, Dani."

"Thanks, Bob."

"And it's fine by me," comes the next person to enter the room. "I know you'll be careful."

"Hi, Dani, Happy Birthday."

"It's fine as long as Dani is very careful with those two." Dot's not fighting this one at all, and honestly...by now she trusts the Fentons.

That and Jack probably knows full well that both she and Maddie will be on him if he decides to experiment on -anything- today.

"Of course I'll be careful," Dani says, and pretends to be offended that they'd think she'd be anything otherwise.

Oh, he knows Dot. He also knows that once Maddie and Dani get through with them they'll give whatever's left to the girls' families.

Now that "Be careful" has been taken care of, Matrix doesn't have to say it himself.

And so long as "what's left" is worn out despite high sugar intakes? He'll be fine with that.

He smiles to himself.

Might even get a decent night's sleep afterwards.

Well, that's almost everyone in. The room's getting fairly crowded, as evidenced by the fact that Danny has phased through the bed to make space.

And now a wisp of fog is escaping from his still-smirking mouth.

At the same time, a similar wisp of fog escapes from Dani's mouth.

That's strange. Nobody appears to be there, but there was now a familiar voice emanating from the closet doorway...

"Happy birthday, Dani."

Welman Matrix, everybody. Not compiled, but here in spirit, at least.

Now that is going to take some getting used to, but—

"Grampa!"

—Analog seems to be adjusting just fine.

Dani grins. "Thank you. I'm glad you could make it, Professor Matrix."

"Dad," Enzo murmurs out of the corner of his mouth, "focus."

"You're 'vis'ble again," Mairi declares more loudly.

"What? Oh, sorry. Still getting use to it, I suppose."

A quick refresh of concentration and we're back in the green!

...and precisely one inch off of the ground, but he doesn't notice.

Eh, close enough. "Looks like you're doing all right to me."

Seeing as how everyone's in, Danny phases down through the floor, then back up again.

"Looks like everyone's ready, waiting, and hungry."

Analog's ready all right. But she sure isn't inclined to wait.

"Cake?" she asks with a child's impatience, tugging at Matrix's hand. "Cake?"

Mairi, in agreement with Ana, drags on Dani's arm in the direction of the door. "You hafta party now!"

"Well, I can't really argue with that," Dani remarks as she allows herself to be dragged toward the door. She looks over her shoulder at the others.

"You guys coming or what?"
