The Fenton-Matrix Wedding: Earth Edition

The Earth wedding is held on a small stretch of beach in Chile, the same stretch of beach where ten years ago a sprite and a half-a shared their first kiss. The set-up is semi-formal, but not too casual. Even the ropes cordoning off the area blend in with the decorations, done up in mint green and lavender.

(There may or may not be bazookas hidden in the flower arrangements, in case of potential human or ghostly interference.)

After the ceremony comes the reception, with dancing, a luncheon featuring steak tenderloin, a crab boil, and summer squash lasagna, and swimming.

"Girls!" Red greets back, just as enthusiastically.

He lowers his stone hand to let anyone who wants to dangle from it, and is ready to reach down and pull the other up onto his shoulders.

The Right Hand of Doom makes an excellent swing. Mairi, unable to fly up in this form, accepts the boost.

“I was the codebearer in the other wedding,” Analog, now dangling upside-down, informs Red.

“I was the flower sprite,” Mairi adds. “Dad was the other best sprite. I liked your suit!”

He makes sure Mairi is settled, then lifts Analog up and down as she swings and dangles.

"Yeah? I bet you gals were great," he says, then grins smugly. "Thanks. Custom made, y'know."

Naturally it had to be.

“It’s pretty. Do you have other things to wear it for?”

Ana gets a good grip with her legs around the base of the Hand and lets go with her own hands.

(Somewhere, in a different universe’s underworld, the forces of evil feel deeply and inexplicably offended.)

"I'm sure I'll find somethin'." There are bound to be other occasions for him to look good.

With Ana hanging on, Red lifts his arm up high so that the girl is almost at eye level with him.

"If you had a tail I'd think you were a monkey," he teases.

Tilting his head back a little, he looks up at Mairi on his shoulders.

"So, where we going?"

There is no question about it for Ana: “Swimming!” It’s the Atlantis-game heritage, she’s nearly as much of a fish as her mother.

“Can we go exploring?” asks Mairi. It’s a new place, in Userspace, on a totally different part of the planet!

"How about we go explore along the shore?" Red suggests, turning and heading towards the beach.

"That works!" Mairi agrees.

"Do you think there's sharks?" Ana asks.

"Nah. And if any show up, I'll just punch 'em in the nose," he says, taking a light punch at the air with the hand Ana is hanging from.

"Mostly, though, if you leave 'em alone they'll leave you alone."

Making it to the shoreline, Red wades out a short distance, just enough to get his feet wet really.

"Here we are."

Ana wants to find a shark! And wrestle it.

For now, though, she drops off his hand and lands with a splash.

"I should get down," Mairi says. "I can't explore the beach from up here."

Reaching up, Red lifts Mairi off of his shoulders and carefully sets her down in the gentle surf.

"I've been looking for a nice shell to take to Liz, so you girls let me know if you find one."

The girls salute and begin their search. Ana wades through the shallows, checking under the water, while Mairi makes a thorough inspection of the exposed sand. They both collect a variety of interesting shells, rocks, and other odds and ends, and discuss seriously which of them are nice enough for Liz.

Hellboy keeps an eye on them, following along, but not venturing too deep into the water (although he's ready to react if either of them winds up in trouble).

He stoops and pokes at a few things, and hefts a large rock so that he can chuck it out into the waves.

"So whatcha got?" he asks, standing over them as they discuss.

They display the top contenders. There are some mussels, some conical snail shells, a decent fragment of abalone, and a few with natural holes through them.

"Nice job, girls," he says, bending down to have a look.

"These are neat." Picking up one of the holed shells, he holds it up to his face to peer through it. "Huh."

Yeah, Liz would like that.

Pulchra was aptly named.

"They'd make a nice necklace," offers Mairi.

"Liz doesn't wear much jewelry," minus her crucifix choker, "but I'm sure she'll still like 'em. Thanks for your help."

Liz will be happy for the souvenirs (especially since they aren't cats or monsters).

"You're welcome!" chorus the girls.

(Who knows, maybe a shell with a hole in it will work like a stone with a hole in it? Is there any mythology surrounding limpets?)

He sticks the best shells into the breast pocket of his Hawaiian shirt.

"I also promised to bring her some cake. But, I probably won't take that to her in my pocket."

"Ewwwww!"

"What? I would wrap it in a napkin, first," he replies, smirking.

"You will not even so," Ana declares firmly. "It'd be smushed."

"I'm pretty sure we can get you a box," says Mairi.
