The Fenton-Matrix Wedding: Earth Edition

The Earth wedding is held on a small stretch of beach in Chile, the same stretch of beach where ten years ago a sprite and a half-a shared their first kiss. The set-up is semi-formal, but not too casual. Even the ropes cordoning off the area blend in with the decorations, done up in mint green and lavender.

(There may or may not be bazookas hidden in the flower arrangements, in case of potential human or ghostly interference.)

After the ceremony comes the reception, with dancing, a luncheon featuring steak tenderloin, a crab boil, and summer squash lasagna, and swimming.

"Thanks, Bonnie," Autor says, ducking his head shyly. "I hope I will be. It's going to take a lot of hard work."

"I'll have the bar for that," Autor says, shrugging. "I can knit, too."

"How did Wilford take yer resignation?" Bonnie asks.

"He was surprisingly fine with it," Autor says, adjusting his glasses. "I expected him to kick up a fuss, but he didn't."

"Fella does seem to have mellowed a little. You must be a good influence."

"If he has mellowed, it probably wasn't because of anything I've done," Autor says, blinking at her. "He doesn't put much stock in other people's opinions."

"Maybe he's just less lonely?"

Autor furrows his brow. "I doubt it. I mostly hang around with his dog. I don't think lonliness is his problem."

"Ah, well, I'm glad he took it well." Bonnie says. "Will you miss the dog?"

"I'll miss the dog," Autor says, sighing. "I won't miss cleaning up the puke, but we had an understanding, he and I."

"Does the dog puke an awful lot?"

"He used to, but if I kept him on a strict diet, that evened out," Autor says, adjusting his glasses. "When other people, like Jim, fed him, he'd throw it all up."

"Why did Jim feed him then?" Bonnie asks.

"To make him throw up," Autor says, wrinkling his nose. "Jim is a jerk."

"He'd make a dog sick on purpose?"

"I wouldn't be surprised if he kills people," Autor says, scoffing.

"Why does Wilford let him come in?" Bonnie asks.

"They're friends, in the strangest way," Autor says, shaking his head s head. "They understand each other."

"He don't mind that Jim hurts his dog?"

"Of course he does, but he can't really do anything about it except shoot him," Autor says, frowning. "This isn't a good topic for a wedding."

"True, sorry. They're a beautiful couple." Bonnie says, turning to look back at the bride and groom.

"They are, and that's a beautiful gift you've made them. How long did it take?" Autor says, gesturing to the patchwork quilt.

"Didn't count the hours, but I worked on it fer a month or so." Bonnie says. "The patches are big and I got a sewing machine so it didn't take as long as it could have."
